Ride Together, Ride Smarter
Structured group rides with clear pace bands, trained leaders, and no-pressure social stops along the way.
Find Your PaceThree Pace Bands — Pick What Fits
Honest speed ranges so you know what to expect before you arrive.
Social — 12–15 km/h
Designed for new riders, families with teenagers, and anyone who prefers conversation over speed. Routes stay on flat towpaths and park circuits. Stops every 30 minutes. No drop policy — the sweeper stays with the slowest rider. Average distance: 12–16 km.
Steady — 16–20 km/h
Our most popular band. Mix of flat and rolling terrain with one moderate climb per ride. Riders should be comfortable with 90 minutes in the saddle. We rotate paceline positions so everyone shares the work on headwind sections. Average distance: 20–28 km.
Brisk — 21–25 km/h
For experienced riders training for sportives or building endurance. Longer climbs, fewer stops, and tighter paceline discipline. You should be confident riding close to others and signalling consistently. Average distance: 30–40 km.
How Our Group Rides Run
Arrive 15 minutes before departure for a roll call and safety briefing. The ride leader covers the route, weather conditions, hand signals, and regroup points. We assign a sweeper — an experienced rider who stays at the back and carries a basic toolkit.
During the ride, call out hazards clearly: "Hole left", "Walker up", "Slowing". On narrow paths, single file is the default. At junctions, the leader stops the group until everyone clears safely. We never race through amber lights or squeeze through gaps that feel tight.
After the ride, many groups stay for coffee at our base or a nearby café. It is the social side that keeps people coming back — sharing route tips, bike maintenance advice, and weekend plans.
What to Bring on Group Rides
- Helmet — required on all our rides, no exceptions
- Spare inner tube — match your wheel size; we carry a pump but not spare tubes for every size
- Water bottle — minimum 500 ml; two bottles for rides over 25 km
- Lights — front and rear, charged, for any ride that might finish near dusk
- Weather layer — packable waterproof or windproof; Yorkshire evenings cool down fast
- Phone — fully charged, with our ride leader's number saved
Bike hire is available at our Bradford base if you book 24 hours ahead. We stock hybrid bikes in common frame sizes with helmets included.
Why Group Riding Works for Many People
Riding alone builds independence. Riding in a group builds skills you practise with others — drafting, communication, and pacing. On a windy canal section, tucking behind a rider can reduce your effort at the same speed. That is technique, not a promise of results for every rider.
Group rides can also make unfamiliar roads feel less daunting. The leader knows the potholes, tricky junctions, and café stops. You focus on pedalling and the scenery.
